DESY Director General Albrecht Wagner stays in office for another five years

Albrecht Wagner (62), Chairman of the Board of Directors of the DESY research center since July 1999, will officiate for another five years after the completion of his first term of office in July 2004. This was decided by the Administrative Council of the research center on its meeting of December 4, 2003, on the basis of a recommendation of the DESY Scientific Council. The particle physicist Albrecht Wagner has conducted scientific research at the University of Heidelberg and at the Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory (USA).
From 1974 to 1986, he worked on experiments at DESY’s DORIS and PETRA storage rings, and from 1982 to 1991 at the research center CERN in Geneva. From 1984 to 1991, he was a professor at the University of Heidelberg. In 1991, he took up a post as a professor of experimental physics at the University of Hamburg and became research director of DESY. From this position he took over the chair of the DESY Board of Directors in July 1999.
