DESY invites you on a photo tour into the world of the smallest particles and research with large-scale facilities. You take part in the free DESY tour at your own risk, DESY assumes no liability.


Rules for the DESY tour

  1. You must be at least 18 years old to participate in the DESY photowalk.
  2. Only photographers with confirmed registration can participate in the DESY Photowalk.
  3. Your confirmed registration is only valid for one person and is not transferable. Please let us know if you are unable to attend at short notice so that people from the waiting list can move up.
  4. Employees of DESY and its campus partners are also welcome to participate - but are not subject to the personal limit of 60 persons.
  5. You must wear closed, flat shoes.
  6. Stay with your assigned Photowalk group and guides at all times.
  7. Follow the DESY safety rules during the Photowalk and follow the instructions of your local Photowalk guides.
  8. Eating and drinking is prohibited in the technical areas. Smoking is not permitted in any building on the premises.
  9. Make sure to drink enough water.
  10. Stay within the areas designated for the Photowalk. Do not open any doors without the permission of the Photowalk guides.
  11. The use of ladders is not permitted. It is not permitted to stand on chairs, tables or the like. Climbing on installations, equipment or machines is prohibited.
  12. Look and walk around freely and take pictures, but do not touch any equipment or objects. Replacing or moving objects around the Photowalk locations is not permitted. Please do not open cupboards, drawers, etc.
  13. Large photo equipment is not allowed. Every photographer participating in the Photowalk must be able to carry their own photographic equipment by him- or herself and bring all personal belongings to the photo shooting locations. You may not bring and use an assistant unless you need help due to a disability.
  14. If you need additional assistance to participate in the DESY photowalk, please inform us in advance. We will try to find a solution.
  15. It is not possible to connect or charge electrical devices during the tour. Make sure that you have enough charged batteries with you to last for the entire event (about four hours). You are not allowed to use long cables (flash cables, sync cables, camera release) that could cause a tripping hazard.
  16. The use of tripods is permitted.
  17. Be helpful and polite to the other participants.

Rules for participation in the photowalk competition

Following the DESY photowalk, you have the opportunity to submit your best photos to DESY. A jury will select 30 winning photos, which will then be exhibited at our Open Day on 20 June 2020. From the 30 winning photos of the DESY photowalk, the top 3 pictures will also be submitted to the international Interactions Photo Competition.

 
  1. In order to participate in the photowalk competition, you must fill in and sign a release form on the day of the event to grant DESY the rights of use, i.e. DESY receives the right to use the photos submitted to DESY for perpetual, non-exclusive, non-commercial, geographically unrestricted licence. DESY will not pass on your photos to third parties for commercial marketing and advertising purposes. When your photos are used by DESY, they will be marked with the note "Copyright: © DESY / Your name".
  2. You retain the copyright to all your photos taken during the DESY photowalk as well as the perpetual, non-exclusive, non-commercial, geographically unrestricted licence.
  3. You can submit up to 20 photos taken during the photowalk. The deadline for submitting your photos is Sunday 5 May 2020.
  4. All photos must be uploaded in digital form to the DESY cloud. The file format should be JPEG or TIFF and have a resolution of at least 2,500 pixels in width. It is not possible to submit printed images.
  5. The files can be submitted in colour or grey scale. The final files can be either unchanged or modified in image processing programs, provided that all original image material was recorded at DESY with a camera/smartphone on the day of the event. Please keep all original images in case the jury requires proof of the source material.
  6. Please name your files in the following way: Name of the photographer, followed by an underscore, followed by the first name, followed by an underscore, followed by a 2-digit sequence number starting with 01. Examples for photographers John Smith: smith_john_01, smith_john_02, ...
