I am leading the research group at the I. Institute for Theoretical Physics (I.ITP) at the University of Hamburg funded by the Freigeist Fellowship Program of the Volkswagen Foundation. The Volkswagen Foundation is a German foundation that supports research and science. The Foundation is not affiliated to the car manufacturer of the same name and shares this name for historical reasons.
The goal of the project is to employ advances of attosecond science for photovoltaic applications. The group invents methods to follow motion of excitons in photovoltaic materials by means of ultrashort light pulses. We employ quantum-mechanical analysis to obtain tools to extract the details of exciton dynamics with sub-femtosecond temporal and sub-nanometer spatial resolution.
