Xth WORKSHOP ON HIGH ENERGY SPIN PHYSICS

Nor Amberd, Armenia

June 30 – July 3, 2002

INFORMATION BULLETIN

General Information

The Yerevan Physics Institute is organizing the Xth International Workshop on High Energy Spin Physics, which will take place at Nor Amberd Conference Centre of YerPhI located at 35 km from Yerevan, the capital of Armenia, on a picturesque slope of Mt. Aragats, 2000 m high above sea level, from June 30 till July 3, 2002.

Scientific Motivation

Spin Physics in the quark-gluon domain of the nucleon started from pioneering experiments performed at SLAC (USA) more than 20 years ago and revealed large spin dependence in deep inelastic e-p scattering. More recently the EMC and successive experiments showed that the quark contribution to the spin of the proton is small, giving rise to the famous “spin crisis”. In development of spin physics a crucial role was played by well-known sum rules. Today spin physics has many achievements : experimental spin-dependent structure functions for proton, neutron, and deuterium; measured polarized parton distributions; first steps towards measuring polarized gluon distribution, orbital angular momenta of partons and nucleon transverse spin structure.

Scientific Programme

The programme will cover topics in

About 60 scientists from different laboratories are expected to participate.

The Workshop working language will be English.

The meeting will provide an opportunity to bring together theoretical and experimental community involved in the research and developments in high and intermediate energy spin physics. In each field an attempt will be made to single out the most interesting current results and problems.

Detailed day by day programme will be included in this web site later.
