«According to the information currently available to us, two people have been killed and several injured. Many people are still missing. Our thoughts and deepest sympathy are with the victims and their families, as well as with all members and staff of the Academy. We mourn with those who have lost family members, friends, or colleagues. We wish the injured strength and a speedy recovery.

DESY and NASU have a long-standing and diverse scientific partnership. It encompasses joint research projects and personal contacts, as well as the exchange of scientists. This relationship has also grown over many years at an institutional level. The President of NASU, Anatoliy Zagorodny, has visited DESY on several occasions. In October 2025, he presented the then-Chairman of the DESY Directorate, Helmut Dosch, with the certificate of his election as a Foreign Member of NASU.

The DESY Directorate stands firmly and in solidarity with NASU and Ukrainian science as a whole. We will continue our collaboration and maintain and strengthen our ties with our Ukrainian partners. Together, we also want to preserve and create new opportunities for research, education, and scientific exchange under the difficult conditions of the war.

To our colleagues in Ukraine, we express our sympathy today and make this commitment: We remain at your side.
