Saša Bajt leads the Advanced Multilayer X-ray Optics group at the Center for Free-Electron Laser Science (CFEL) and is also a leading scientist in the Cluster of Excellence "CUI: Advanced Imaging of Matter." Among other things, she is developing a new generation of X-ray lenses and X-ray microscopes that will enable multidimensional studies of various materials and biological samples at the nanometer scale.

Only members who have made particularly outstanding achievements in the field of optics are appointed to SPIE's exclusive circle of senior members. Founded in 1955, the nonprofit society serves more than 258,000 people in about 184 countries. It organises and supports about 25 major conferences, exhibitions and teaching programs worldwide each year. Its goal is to connect researchers, educators and industry to advance light-based research and technologies to improve human living conditions.

Saša Bajt has already received several prizes and awards for her outstanding work. In 2021 the Slovenian-born scientist was awarded the title of Ambassador of Science of the Republic of Slovenia. She is also a Fellow of the Optical Society of America (now Optica).
