Christian Harringa becomes DESY's new Administrative Director

Foundation Council appoints jurist as Christian Scherf’s successor

DESY’s Foundation Council has appointed Christian Harringa to become the Administrative Director of the research centre. As a result, Harringa will also become the deputy chairman of DESY’s Board of Directors. The jurist arrived at DESY in April 2015, as head of administration, and assumed the office of acting director of administration from Christian Scherf in November, when Scherf moved to the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) in Heidelberg.

“Christian Harringa is an expert administrator with a proven track record and we are very pleased we have secured him as Mr Scherf’s successor,” says the chairman of the DESY Board of Directors, Helmut Dosch. “Mr Harringa has been acting director of administration for several months already, and he has done an excellent job. DESY’s Board of Directors is very much looking forward to working with him in the future.”

Before joining DESY, Harringa had worked for the City of Hamburg, among other things in the capacity of head of the division for University Medicine and Life Sciences, as well as the head of the senator’s offices in the Departmental Authority for Science and Research. For four years, he served the European Commission as a seconded national expert in the Directorate-General for Competition.
