Happy birthday physik.begreifen

Congratulations from Burkhard Jungkamp, State Secretary of Brandenburg´s Ministry for Education, Youth and Sport.

The hands-on school lab physik.begreifen at DESY in Zeuthen, celebrated its 5th birthday. Guests from politics, science and education joined this anniversary which took place on 28 May 2009. In the evening, many interested people enjoyed the entertaining and magical science show of Metamagicum.

Knowledge is an essential good and basic research brings about a multiplication and development of knowledge. The DESY school labs intend to support and foster the ambition to gain insight – a basic element of human nature. For this purpose, pupils are given the opportunity for one day at the Zeuthen vacuum lab and cosmic lab to occupy themselves intensely with a physics topic in theory and practice. In doing their own experiments the pupils are eager to get to the bottom of physical laws. At the same time they discover the exciting world of research. Without time and grade pressure, they learn how interesting physics can be. The encounter with scientists gives the young researchers the opportunity to deal with current scientific questions and to experience the researchers’ daily routine.

All these offers are very well accepted and booked out quickly. More than 100 school classes visit physik.begreifen at Zeuthen every year. Up to now, more than 12000 pupils of 4th to 11th grade participated in the Zeuthen hands-on school lab.
