Ten Years of DESY Zeuthen

Ten years ago on January 1st, 1992, the Institute for High Energy Physics in Zeuthen (southeast of Berlin) was incorporated into DESY, thus becoming the first institute of the former GDR Academy of Sciences to subsist as an entire research facility.

Today DESY celebrates ten years of collaboration, with the participation of Prof. Johanna Wanka, Minister for Science, Research and Culture of the Federal State of Brandenburg. The "anniversary" program includes a colloquium in Zeuthen and an evening event at the exhibition "TESLA - Light for the New Millennium" located in the Automobil Forum Unter den Linden of the Volkswagen AG. Various talks will present the history and the research activities of DESY Zeuthen. The program also includes the commissioning of the new Photo Injector Test Facility (PITZ) at DESY Zeuthen. In the future, PITZ will be used to test and optimize electron sources for both the large TESLA linear accelerator and the X-ray laser.
