Regarding tickes we highly recommend you to buy a "9 Euro ticket" https://shop.hvv.de/index.php/product/536/show/0/0/0/0 This monthly ticket allows you to travel on regional services (including all public transport in Hamburg) throughout Germany. If you prefer to buy a single ticket then for a ride from the Airport to DESY you have to buy a single fare ticket for the so called 'Hamburg Grossbereich', which costs 3,50 Euro. Tickets can be bought online or purchased at the automats in the train stations. If you are in a group up to 5 persons you can buy a group ticket for 12,90 Euro. You can find more information at http://www.hvv.de/en/ YOUR FIRST ARRIVAL AT DESY: --------------------------- You can arrive at DESY (and enter/exit the site) at ANY time during day or night. Access to the hostel rooms is provided with a key card which is obtained at the Hostel Office during opening hours. Outside opening hours and on holidays key cards can be collected or returned at the main gate (Notkestrasse).
