   Short description of the project the student should work on  :

The International Linear Collider (ILC) is a planned e+e- collider
with a CMS energy of 500 GeV. The FLC group at DESY is very active
in the ILC detector R&D as well as the development of simulation and
reconstruction software. 
Recently we have developed new software tools for the reconstruction 
of charged particle tracks at an ILC detector,  comprising of pattern
recognition algorithms and parameter fitting using a Kalman Filter.
These tools have been successfully used in a massive Monte Carlo
production for the ILD detector concept's Detailed Baseline Report.
Currently these tools are adapted for the reconstruction and analysis
of test beam data from the large prototype Time Projection Chamber. 
The student will contribute to the ongoing improvement of the tracking
software. Possible topics could involve: validation and control plots,
automated testing, comparison of predicted versus meassured hit
uncertainties in a TPC and will be chosen depending on the students
experience and preferences.
