   Short description of the project the student should work on  :

Development of a code to measure the momentum distribution at the FLASH gun

exact knowledge of the momentum distribution direct after the FLASH photo injector is important in order to verify the functionality or malfunction of several components of the electron source.
A Matlab-code in order  to measure the momentum distribution should be developed (an existing C-code which requires several modifications can be used as a starting point). the optimized focussing of the beam for the measurement should be analysed.

programming a Matlab-code
You can learn something about: 
	- the properties of the electron source at FLASH 
	- usage of a dipole magnet to as beam diagnostic tool and its error sources

Existing knowledge in  Matlab is usefully.
