Short description of the project the student should work on :

The two-photon decay of the SM Higgs boson is an important Higgs-discovery
channel in the 115-131 GeV mass range.
One of the key ingredients for detecting, or excluding, Higgs production
in this channel is an accurate photon identification efficiency determination.
It is well known that deficiencies in the MC simulation of photon identification
can lead to large uncertainties in this efficiency.
A data-driven method has therefore been developed to extrapolate it from
electrons in Z decays, which are similar to photons in terms of their identification.
The student's project will be a study of the limits of applicability of this method
to the different categories of di-photon events defined by the SM Higgs analysis.
This project will familiarize the student with the common ingredients used in
data analyses, such as MC simulation, sample selection, and signal purity and
 efficiency.

Physics / Computing/ Engineering Content of the project :

During his/her stay the summer student will become acquainted with
common data analysis aspects such as MC simulation, data selection,
purity and efficiency determination and signal searches.

------------------------------------------------------------------

Special Qualifications expected from the student ( Computing,...) :

Prior knowledge of C++ and root would be very valuable.
