Short description of the project the student should work on  :




Analysis of ATLAS data for  pp->Z->ee channel:

Data collected in during the summer of 2012  are expected to provide new large sample of Z->ee decays, 
at increased center of mass energy.
These data can be used for detector performance understanding: calorimeter calibration, 
efficiency studies. DESY group is actively
involved in the ATLAS liquid argon calorimeter calibration. 
The obtained calibration constants are used for all ATLAS physics
analyses, including the search for the Higgs boson decaying into gamma-gamma pairs. 
The student will participate in determination
of the calibration constants for the coming data,  investigation and optimisation of  the calibration procedure.

Physics / Computing/ Engineering  Content of the project :


Standard Model Z-boson production, studies of performance of the
LAr calorimeter. programming in C++, scripting languages. minimisation/optimisation problems.

  Special Qualifications expected from the student ( Computing,...) :
 
 
   Basic knowledge of linux, c++, root, scripting languages.
