    Short description of the project the student should work on  :

Time projection chambers find applications in many areas of science. At the future linear collider a TPC is foreseen to be used as a central part of the tracking system. A TPC based on readout by Gas Electron Multipliers is under development at DESY in international collaboration. In this project central properties of the GEM foils when used in the TPC will be studied. Of particular interest are central properties like electrical transparency etc. The student will participate in the setup of an experiment to study these issues, and, depending on the progress, study data from the setup.

    Physics / Computing/ Engineering  Content of the project :

The student will help in the setup of the experiment, and - depending on the progress - perform measurements. He/ She will participate in the analysis of the data from the experiment.

The student should enjoy laboratory work, and be willing to spend some time in front of a computer
