   Short description of the project the student should work on  :

   CMS is one of the large multi-purpose experiments at the CERN 
   Large Hadron Collider. The currently highest physics priority is 
   the discovery of the Higgs boson. The CMS Higgs group at DESY 
   searches for Higgs decays into bottom quarks, which is a promising
   channel particularly in supersymmetric extensions of the Higgs model. 

   The summer student will participate in studying various aspects of the
   analysis procedure with the help of simulated signal and background 
   events, as well as data recorded with the CMS detector. The computations 
   will be performed at the National Analysis Center (NAF) at DESY, and
   involve using the CMS Grid resources.

   Physics / Computing/ Engineering  Content of the project :

   Physics of the Higgs boson, including supersymmetric extensions. 
   Teamwork an analysis group embedded in a large international 
   collaboration. Use of a highly distributed computing framework.
   Grid computing. Application of CMS-specific and general software 
   tools for analysis.

  Special Qualifications expected from the student ( Computing,...) :

  Interest & some skills in programming. Some experience with C++ or Python
  would help, ideally also with the Root system.
