          Short description of the project the student should work on  :

          During the long LHC shutdown in 2013, the HCAL Outer (HO)
          photo-sensors will be replaced by sensors of the new class
          of Silicon Photo-Multipliers (SiPM). The working principle of
          SiPM makes it necessary to distribute the light as homogeneously
          as possible over the SiPM surface.

          The project addresses the optimization of the optical coupling
          between light guide and SiPM. The work includes the measurement
          of the SiPM saturation level and the SiPM saturation function
          for different optical configurations in a small laboratory setup.

          The results will be used to interpret test-beam measurements
          with full-sized prototypes of the CMS calorimeters.
