   Short description of the project the student should work on  :

   The CMS Experiment is one of the two large multi-purpose experiments at 
   the Large Hadron Collider at CERN. To ensure optimal detector and reconstruction
   software performance the recording and processing of CMS data is monitored continuously.
   The CMS Data Quality Monitoring system (DQM) produces event data distributions (histograms),
   which include all CMS detector, trigger and software components. The results are published on
   a webserver, allowing CMS users world-wide to closely follow the data taking.
   Continuous DQM shifts are organized for the visual inspection of the DQM distributions
   at the experiment and at the remote centers at CERN, Fermilab and DESY. 
   The DESY group plays an important role in DQM and makes contributions to the DQM software, 
   the computing, the data certification and shift operations.

   Physics / Computing/ Engineering  Content of the project :

   - Maintenance and improvement of offline DQM data processing.
   - Implementation / upgrade of DQM code for the production of histograms.
   - Improvement of graphical representation of the histograms by the DQM webserver.

  Special Qualifications expected from the student ( Computing,...) :
 
   - Some experience with programming, possibly in C++ and/or python
   - Basic ideas about High Energy Physics experiments.
   - Use of the root package for the production of histograms.
