THESES - DESY offers challenging tasks in an international setting

Diploma and doctoral theses at DESY in Zeuthen

In Zeuthen DESY offers opportunities for diploma and doctoral theses in the following fields:
> particle physics
> astroparticle physics
> accelerator physics and technology

DESY in Zeuthen does not grant diploma or doctoral degrees directly but collaborates with several universities. Candidates for thesis research will have to satisfy the universities' terms of admission for diploma and doctoral theses.

Particle physics

Experimental particle physics at the LHC at CERN: Experiments ATLAS and CMS
Experimental particle physics at the ILC
Particle physics theory: phenomenology of elementary particles, quantum field theory and lattice gauge theories

Astroparticle physics

Astroparticle physics combines methods and questions from atrophysics, cosmology and article physics, enabling the observation of fundamental processes in the universe. Diploma and doctoral theses  as well as Bachelor and Master Theses can be carried out at the experimental research projects of the neutrino and the gamma astronomy, as well as in theoretical physics. More information you find here.

Accelerator physics and technology

Since 2002, DESY in Zeuthen has been running its very own small linear accelerator: the photo injector test facility PITZ, which is used for the development and optimization of laser-driven high-brilliance radio-frequency electron sources for future free-electron lasers and linear accelerators.

The research profile at the DESY's Zeuthen location also encompasses work for the free-electron laser FLASH, the synchrotron radiation source PETRA III and the European XFEL X-ray laser.
