DIS 2003 in St.PETERSBURG

SECOND CIRCULAR

DIS03 is the 11th in a series of annual workshops on Deep Inelastic Scattering (DIS) and Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD). Previous workshops took place in Durham, Eilat, Paris, Rome, Chicago, Brussels, Zeuthen, Liverpool, Bologna and Cracow. The 2003 workshop will be held in the city of Saint Petersburg during April 23-27,2003. The aim of this workshops is to review the progress in the field of DIS and QCD and to discuss and lay the groundwork for the future.

Scientific program

The physics topics of the workshop will include the following subjects: structure of the nucleon, structure of the photon, low-x physics, diffraction, tests of QCD, electroweak physics, physics beyond the Standard Model (SM), spin physics, future experimental opportunities. The present status and prospects of these subjects will be discussed in the working groups, and summarized in the plenary talks.

PLENARY TALKS

Introductory plenary talks:

"Low-x, diffraction and structure function" - Michail Ryskin , PNPI
"Electro-weak and physics beyond SM" - Andrew Mehta, University of Liverpool
"Hadronic final states" - Juan Terron, Madrid
"Heavy flavours" - Beate Naroska, DESY
"Spin physics" - Werner Vogelsang, RIKEN BNL

Status and Perspective plenary talks:

"Status of the Standard Model" - Guido Altarelli, CERN
"Status of QCD" - John Negele, MIT
"TESLA" - Albrecht Wagner, DESY

Registration and visa formalities

We ask the participants to register as soon as possible, using the registration form. The need for this is driven by the fact that in the year 2003, Saint Petersburg celebrates its 300th year anniversary and finding accommodations needs careful planning. Please indicate whether you need a Russian visa in your registration form. Most of the participants who has no Russian citizenship need Russian visa to go to Russia. For the visa application, an official letter of invitation from the LOC of the Workshop must be presented by you to your local Russian Consulate. We will provide you with this letter as soon as you have registered. Please note that by early visa application you save time and expenses.

Workshop location

The Workshop will be located in the hotel "St.Petersburg" The Hotel will provide the Workshop with a big conference hall and smaller halls for parallel sessions. Over the recent years the Hotel hosted numerous scientific congresses, major social events, art festivals, etc. The St.Petersburg Hotel is conveniently situated in the center of the city with many historical landmarks within easy reach:the State Hermitage Museum, the St.Peter and St.Paul Fortress, the Summer garden, and other popular destinations.

Accommodation

It is planned that the workshop participants will be accommodated in the same St.Petersburg Hotel where the Conference will be held. The prices for rooms range from 60$ per night (rooms may be shared by two persons) to 120$ per night (executive double).

The conference fee

The conference fee is 300 EUROs for senior participants and 200 EUROs for students, if paid before March 25, 2003. A 10% late fee will be charged after this date. The conference fee will cover the workshop proceedings, workshop lunches and all social events. Accompanying persons who would like to join the conference dinner and the conference guided tour will be charged 50 EUROs. Payments can be made to the conference account by a bank transfer to:
DESY
Hamburgische Landesbank
BLZ 200 500 00
SWIFT code: HALADEHH
Konto 303 800 010
"DIS03 conference fee for " ...
Hamburg, Germany

We have to ask the participant to carry the cost of the bank transfer. Please make sure that the payment has your name, address and the word DIS03 attached to it. Kindly fax a copy of the bank transfer to the workshop secretariat (007 81271 31963). Unfortunately the conference fee can not be paid with a credit card.

The deadline for Conference fee transfer to the DIS-03 DESY account is March 31. Please, do not transfer the conference fee after March 31. If not being paid before this date, the late Conference fee increased by 10% is to be paid with EU's or russian rubles at the Workshop registration desk on arrival.
