Persons who have had contact with a person with a confirmed infection with the corona virus or who have stayed in a risk area designated by the RKI in the last 14 days may not enter the DESY premises in Hamburg or Zeuthen. You are requested to contact the local health authority. Only after a 14-day self-isolation, symptom-free persons can enter the campus. This applies to DESY employees, service providers and guests.

Detailed rules can be found in the DESY Guidelines.

Information on the daily designation of international risk areas can be found on the following website: > Risk areas

If you have stayed on a DESY campus and have any complaints typical of Corona, please contact as soon as possible.

Working on Campus

We have established rules for working on campus to minimize the likelihood of infection with the corona virus. The rules will be adapted as necessary.

Home Office

If possible, work in your home office, use telephone or video conferencing tools like Cisco or Zoom for communication.

Only come to the campus when you are free of complaints. If you suspect symptoms of a corona infection - especially fever, headache or cough - stay at home for safety reasons and consult your family doctor.

Way to work

If you work on campus, make sure that the risk of infection on the way to work and home is minimal. Especially when using public transportation, make sure that you keep a distance of at least 1.5 meters to other people. If necessary, discuss alternative working hours with your manager in order to avoid using public transport at peak times.

We want to keep the number of people who are on campus at the same time as small as possible. In principle, there should only be one person in each office, in the larger offices perhaps two. Also keep your distance in the institute. Please still prefer home office, if possible. It is best to plan your office hours a week in advance.

Review internal events and meetings to see if they are necessary. Events over 30 people are currently prohibited. We generally recommend the use of telephone and video conferencing tools for workshops and meetings. For internal events and meetings of 10 or more people, keep lists of participants (with email address).

Food in the canteen

In the canteen in Hamburg, simple mouth/nose protection or a community mask must be worn and sufficient distance must be maintained due to official regulations.

Hot packed lunch for consumption outside the canteen is sold Monday to Friday from 11:00 to 13:30 in the lunch counter area. Other packaged food and beverages, including hot drinks, are available for collection in the cafeteria from Monday to Friday between 7:00 and 15:00 h. The cafeteria is closed on Saturdays and Sundays. Current offer

Since 08 June, the Hamburg canteen has taken up restaurant operations. The canteen operator is obliged to the Hamburg authorities to collect the contact details of all guests and to keep them available for a period of four weeks. This serves exclusively to trace the chains of infection in the event that an infected person is present in the canteen. DESY´s DACHS card system shall in general be used for collecting the contact data. Until this has been established, the contact data of the guests are collected with paper forms. Please fill in the form and throw it into one of the boxes at the entries of the canteen.

Please use the entire meal times for lunch from 11:30 to 13:30 h and sit at the tables with a large distance between them. Come later if there are more than 20 people in the canteen.

Hygiene on the premises

Keep your workplace clean and wash your hands regularly. Pay attention to well-ventilated rooms, especially during
meetings. Disinfect shared workstations before and after each use, especially keyboard and mouse.
