Users’ Meeting kicks off with record participation

Registrations pass 1000-mark for the first time

The joint DESY and European XFEL users' meeting for research with photons kicked off with record participation on Wednesday. For the first time, the organisers counted more than 1000 registrations for the annual event. The number of registrations has climbed steadily during the last years. “This illustrates how popular our unique research light sources are in the scientific community,” said DESY scientific director for photon science, Prof. Edgar Weckert.

The three-day meeting discusses existing and future research possibilties with the bright X-ray light from free-elecron lasers like DESY's FLASH and the European XFEL as well as from DESY's synchrotron radiation source PETRA III. Topics range from ultrafast slow motion cameras for molecules to X-raying matter under extreme conditions like high pressure and high temperature in the lab.

The main program is complemented by satellite workshops covering techniques and instrumentation questions, and a poster session presenting the latest scientific results, which will be accompanied by a vendor exhibition.
