Rahul Cecil | What Are ALPs & How To Hunt Them?

Despite being one the most rigorously tested and verified theories in Modern Physics, the Standard Model still remains unable to explain numerous experimentally observed phenomena. A prime example being the mystery of Dark Matter and Dark Energy. Presented here is the story of Axions and their theoretical counterparts: Axion Like Particles. Axions appear from the solution to one of the other failings of the current Standard Model: the Strong CP problem. These theoretically motivated particles would exhibit rather interesting behaviors via their coupling to the EM field. Along with ALPs, these mysterious particles might also be able to account for Dark Matter, at least in part. In the context of the talk we will briefly cover the theoretical motivation for Axions and ALPs and present our approaches to hunting for evidence supporting the existence of ALPs under the paradigms of Astroparticle Physics
