Cluster algebras, Steinmann relations and scattering amplitudes

Georgios Papathanasiou (DESY)

In this talk, I report on recent progress in the computation of scattering amplitudes in N=4 super Yang-Mills theory, based on the cluster algebra structure of its kinematic space, and analytic properties derived from axiomatic quantum field theory. Cluster algebras are instrumental in identifying the general space of functions in which the amplitude "lives"; and singling out the amplitude from this space is greatly facilitated by the Steinmann relations, which reduce its dimension by requiring certain double discontinuities to vanish. After introducing these concepts, I will describe their success in determining the symbols of the 3-loop NMHV and 4-loop MHV seven-particle amplitudes, and discuss further applications in interesting kinematic limits.
