Reinhard Brinkmann confirmed in office for five more years
In the session on 14 December, the DESY Administrative Council appointed Dr. Reinhard Brinkmann for another five years as Director of the Accelerator Division. His second term begins on 1 July 2012.
Since 2007, Reinhard Brinkmann has been the director of the accelerator division and head of the largest of the three research sectors at DESY. He started work at DESY in 1984 and was always directly involved in the developments of accelerator physics at DESY – as HERA machine coordinator, participating in the draft for the TESLA Linear Collider, or at the European XFEL project. His second term does not only stand for an extension of comprehensive activities in the construction and operation of particle accelerators, but also for the advancement of this research field. Only recently, on Brinkmann’s initiative, the Helmholtz “Accelerator Research and Development“(ARD)programme was launched, which is also coordinated by him. The initiative bundles competences and resources in this research field to develop accelerator technologies and concepts – tailor-made for future challenges in basic research and for applications, for instance in medicine and materials science.
