Federal Cross of Merit for Ulrich Gensch

Yesterday, Dr. Ulrich Gensch was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit First Class of the Federal Republic of Germany. Ulrich Gensch who went into retirement on 1 June, was Representative of the DESY Directorate in Zeuthen for 13 years and before this period he worked in Hamburg for three years as director of a DESY department. He now received the Federal Cross of Merit for his outstanding contributions for the science and industry location Germany.

The distinction was presented with the statement: “With effective concepts, a judicious political approach and strong personal dedication, as an initiator and competent actor, you supported the integration of the Institute for High-Energy Physics (IfH) of the GDR Science Academy into DESY.” With this, he gave the institute a clear and promising development perspective and, at the same time, contributed visibly and effectively to strengthen DESY’s potential as a world leading user laboratory and renowned training centre.

“Ulli Gensch achieved a great deal of merits in the merging process of our two locations,” said Professor Helmut Dosch, Chairman of the DESY Board of Directors. “We express our heartfelt congratulations on this distinction.”
