Minutes of HERA Meeting
19.02.2002
HERA
- The interlock test were finished last Thursday.
- Positron beam was injected Thursday night.
- Manufacturing of the fixed collimators SL/NL 66m was somewhat faster than
expected. The collimators were already installed on Friday.
- Positron beam operation started again on Saturday
- The background conditions at ZEUS improved after the
installation of the collimator. (The H1 background was not checked.)
- 10mA of positrons were injected for the first time.
- Polarization studies were prepared on Sunday and Monday. It was
difficult to go the polarization tunes at full energy. Tunes were
therefore changed at injection energy.
- The GO magnet in the South IR was again tested on Friday and Monday.
There is still an alarm at about 560A: no resistive increase in voltage,
no quench in leads and magnet and no indication that the magnet is damaged.
It could be caused by a ground fault in the wiring box at high current.
- The vertical opening of absorbers 1 and 2 at the right side of the IP
(N(S)R 4 and 6m) are not large enough for the synchrotron radiation fan
with the present beam orbit (and magnetoffsets).
Backscattering causes high backgrounds in H1 and ZEUS.
It was decided to increase the vertical opening of the absorbers.
- F.Willeke presented the updated schedule HERA schedule.
Beam operation will stop tomorrow at 7:00hrs for the removal and modification
of the absorbers.
HERMES
- Installation of the lambda wheels will be done from 04.03. to 10.03.02
as scheduled.
- The beam loss monitoring system is ready. A warning will appear in the
HERA control room. The dump signal is not yet connected.
