Minutes of HERA Meeting
22.01.2002
HERA
- PETRA interlock tests will be finished on Thursday. The interlock will then
be ready for injection into HERA.
- The repair of the defective support of the proton vacuum chamber at SR130
is in progress. The beam vacuum had to be vented. The cryostat was moved
out of the beam position. The repair is expected to be finished this Friday.
- Several X-rays were taken to examine the activated section at WR330.
No defects or misplacements of beam pipe/magnet parts were found. It was
to decided to start cooling down again.
One of the explanation of the activation and limited aperture is a
defective beam position monitor, resulting in wrong beam steering.
- In case the repair at SR130 is finished on Friday, cool-down of this
octant will start immediately. There will be no beam operation until
the cool-down is completed (about 8 days).
- In case the case the repair is not finished on Friday, positron beam
operation will start Thursday night, and will be continued during nights
until the repair is done.
- Interlock of the experiments is not needed at present. It should be
set when required, Thursday evening would be the earliest.
- Stable He supply of the H1 and ZEUS solenoids is not guaranteed during
the cool-down of HERA.
- Some of the interlock tests scheduled for June should be performed during
the cool-down next week.
Note added after the meeting. The repair work at SR130 will not be finished
this Friday. Positron machine studies will therefore be done on the weekend.
H1
- Work is going on on the hydraulics for moving the GO and GG magnet
remotely. Next week the detector will be opened to the check the hydraulics
and movement of the HERA magnet bridges.
ZEUS
- Detector is closed, solenoid is on, taking cosmics.
HERMES
- Detector is closed and ready. Some work will be performed on the target.
