Minutes of HERA Meeting
04.09.2001
Summary of HERA Status, F. Willeke
Commissioning of the proton machine went reasonably smoothly. The beam
was successfully accelerated to 920 GeV. Turning on the electron ring
was
much more difficult. It took about one week to get the positron beam
through
H1. The reason was a defective GI magnet. One of the coils had
a short,
which was repaired last week. There are still some anomalies. Very
high
currents are needed for the GO and GG correction coils at the north
IR. Orbit
studies indicate that there are large magnet offsets, which
does not agree
with the survey. The magnet currents in the south IR are close to the
design
values. Yesterday, the positron beam was ramped to 18 GeV.
The commissioning is about 3 weeks behind schedule. F. Willeke will
present
an updated schedule in two weeks.
Details of the HERA commissioning can be found in the weekly weekly
summaries
and shift
summaries .
During the first weeks of proton operation the neutron background in
the
north and south halls was significantly higher than during normal HERA
operation. The radiation safety group has therefore asked to install
the
missing shielding in the north and south hall.
HERA Access Days
The missing shielding will be installed Monday and Tuesday next week.
The access will start at 7:00 hrs. It will end when all shielding is
installed.
The next maintenance day, 24.09.2001, will stay as scheduled.
The next HERA meeting is Tuesday, 18.09.2001 11:00hrs.
