Minutes of HERA Meeting
16.11.2004
HERA
M.Bieler summarized the HERA status:
- Last week was spent exchanging the damaged GN magnet NL20. The lower
inner coil was severely damaged
( picture1
picture2). The cause of the damage is not yet understood.
The water flow was checked. All similar magnets were inspected.
The replacement took slightly longer than expected. The vacuum system
NL26 to NR26 had to be vented. Four magnets were opened to remove
the proton vacuum chamber. Shielding in the west hall had to be removed
in order to move in the HERA tram. The work was finished yesterday
evening.
- The NEG pumps in the north were activated yesterday afternoon.
Cool-down
of the GO/GG magnets started in the late evening. Electron beam
was injected into HERA this morning.
- There was a short break this morning for repair of a small water leak.
Electron operation will resume this morning.
Schedule
- Machine studies will be performed for the next two weeks, see
schedule.
- Luminosity monitors should be ready when the electron beam is ramped
(Tuesday to Wednesday night).
- The H1 and ZEUS solenoids should be off until Saturday, 20.11.04.
- Setup of luminosity is scheduled for 29.11., start of luminosity
operation for 2.12.2004.
