Minutes of HERA Meeting
26.10.2004
HERA
M.Bieler and B.Holzer summarized the HERA status:
- The machine group started beam operation on the weekend 15.-18.10.2004.
The pre-accelerators and the beam transfer line from PETRA to HERA
were setup. Injection studies were performed. The beam was successfully
injected into HERA until WR700m.
The pre-accelerators and transfer line were then switched to electron
operation. Beam was seen at the foil close the septum. Switching
polarity takes about 10 to 15 minutes.
- Proton operation started last weekend. Two superconducting proton
quadrupole magnets (El 145 and EL 114) could not be turned on.
The maximum current was 20A. The problem EL 145 was cured by cleaning
the connections. The other magnet and power supply is
still being checked.
Proton beam was successfully stored in HERA. At injection energy the
aperture
is only 3 sigma due to missing quadrupole.
- The wire alignment system is being installed this week. The north IR
will be finished today. The work in the south will start tomorrow.
- The IR magnets in the south hall were already checked. The north IR
magnets will be turned on and checked Thursday and Friday.
- Some part of the missing shielding will be installed on Friday.
Schedule
- Weekend: startup with positrons (few bunches). The luminosity monitors
should be ready.
- Monday: commissioning of electron BPMs
- Next week there is still a chance for tunnel access when the IR magnets
will be moved.
