Hera Coordination Meeting Oct 13, 1999 ====================================== The requests and decisions taken in the meeting are summarized as follows. Christmas shutdown ------------------ will begin on Dec 19 after machine studies starting on Dec 13. On request of Hera-B it will be extended to 7.1.2000 to allow for beam pipe installation and re-alignment work. NB: Recently the shutdown was extended further to Jan 16, 2000 to allow H1 the repair of their central drift chambers, see a recent mail of C.Kleinwort. Mini shutdowns -------------- The planned dates for 1999 are unchanged. Hera-B requests another mini shutdown early 2000 for installing remaining inner tracking chambers, which is scheduled for 7.2. to 9.2.2000 (coinciding with DESY maintenance period). Running in 2000 --------------- H1 wishes to continue with positron running in 2000. ZEUS will decide on its preference until end of November. In case of disagreement, a Hera coordination meeting should be called on Dec. 8, 1999 to take a decision between electron and positron running. Miscellaneous ------------- Hermes re-iterates the wish to have the beam polarization flipped after each mini shutdown. They might want to have 3-4 weeks of un-polarized running after the Lambda-wheels are commissioned, which should give a small (45h) contribution to the electron beam life time. Hera asks for extending the period between access days from 4 to 5 or 6 weeks from 2000 onwards, the experiments agree. The Hera taskforce is reactivated under the leadership of C.Kleinwort to solve the outstanding problems of cohabitation between Hera-B target operation and the other experiments, and to maximize Hera-Bs use of the proton beam time.
