ATLAS Computing at the GoeGrid Resource Center

GoeGrid is a computing resource center at the "Gesellschaft fuer
wissenschaftlische Datenverarbeiting in Goettingen" (GWDG). It is used
and administrated by various local grid and non-grid communities. The
largest one is the HEP community of the II. Institute of Physics using
GoeGrid as Tier-2 center for the ATLAS experiment. The Tier-2 center is
operated in federation with DESY HH. In the talk a detailed description
of the setup and administration of GoeGrid is given focusing on the HEP
point of view. Advantages and challenges of the interdisciplinary
collaboration of the communities is discussed as each community has
individual requirements and demands.
The status of the ATLAS Tier-2 center is presented. In order to increase
the stability and performance of the cluster single-point-of-failures
and bottlenecks need to be identified and then eliminated or at least
minimized. This requires a good monitoring of various hardware and
software components. The importance of grid computing increases in many
subjects and fields, not only in high energy physics. Therefore,
including grid computing in the education of students seems quite
natural. Goettingen University started offering seminars and lab courses
on grid technologies.
