Alignment and Calibration in the CMS Experiment

Rainer Mankel

Harnessing of the full physics potential of the CMS experiment depends fundamentally on
the optimal alignment and calibration of the detector. The CMS collaboration has developed
a powerful computing and software framework for operating alignment and calibration
workflows, which has been commissioned and extensively tested in Monte Carlo campaigns,
namely the CSA08 challenge, and extended cosmic muon runs.
The presentation gives an overview of the CMS alignment and calibration framework, and
summarizes the experience from the recent commissioning activities.
