LCLS (Linac Coherent Light Source) Computing at SLAC

Alf Wachsmann
SLAC

The Linac Coherent Light Source (LCLS) at SLAC will produce ultrafast pulses
of X-rays millions of times brighter than even the most powerful synchrotron
sources -- pulses powerful enough to make images of single molecules.
First experiments begin in September 2009.
After introducing this new facility and its 6 experimental stations, I will
focus on the computing aspects.
I will briefly talk about the DAQ system and then introduce the offline data
management system. I will close with a list of open and unsolved questions
about the algorithmic and computing aspects of LCLS.
