Alignment of track detectors - Large scale optimization

The large track detectors of the LHC experiments require an
accurate alignment with the determination of several 10 k parameters
in order to allow to make use of the potential high spatial resolution,
necessary for the physics goals. Efficient mathematical methods
exist to solve optimization problems with a large number of
parameters and constraints. Current algorithms are discussed
and results from recent detector studies are presented.
