apeNEXT: A new compute engine for Lattice QCD

Hubert SIMMA
DESY

apeNEXT is the latest generation of massively parallel computers
optimised for numerical simulations in Lattice QCD, developed
within the APE Project (Array Processor Experiment) by INFN, DESY
and Orsay. Currently two large prototype systems with 512 nodes
are being assembled and tested.

This talk provides an overview of the hardware and software
architecture of apeNEXT, describes its new features, like the
SPMD programming model and the C compiler, and reports on the
current status.
