Space weather: Explosions on the Sun and how they break our communication systems

Dr. Carl Lindstroem (DESY)

In 1859, a giant solar storm hit the Earth, destroying telegraph systems and electroshocking their operators. Today, similar events can seriously damage our power grids and communication systems. So what happens on the Sun that causes these geomagnetic storms, and can we predict when the next one will come? Dieser Vortrag ist auf englisch! Wir freuen uns auf SchülerInnen, die bilingualem Unterricht haben.
