How to get to DESY

• By train:

leave the train at HH-ALTONA, the second stop after the Hauptbahnhof (Main Station). Then you can reach DESY by:
• Taxi:

Travelling time ca. 15-20 minutes.
ca. DM 25,-
• Bus:

Metrobus 1 (direction Krankenhaus Rissen) direct to DESY. The bus stop, (Zum Hünengrab / DESY), is at the entrance to the DESY site.
Travelling time ca. 16 minutes.
ca. DM 4,-
• S-Bahn: (local subway system)

Line S1 or S11 (direction Blankenese / Wedel) to OTHMARSCHEN, then leave the station via the escalator exit
and transfer to Metrobus 1 (direction Krankenhaus Rissen). The bus stop is on the opposite side of the road to the subway station.
Travelling time ca. 10 minutes.

• or, walk to DESY!

Leave the station at the Waitzstraße exit, turn right at the bottom of the stairs, turn left onto Waitzstraße, right onto Gross Flottbeker Straße and follow that road directly to DESY! It takes ca. 25 minutes and is both interesting and healthy!!
• By plane:

From the Hamburg airport "Fuhlsbüttel" you have the following possibilities:
• Taxi:

Travelling time ca. 40 - 50 minutes.
ca. DM 45,-
• Bus:

Airport Express 110  to OHLSDORF S-Bahn Station.
Line S1 or S11 to OTHMARSCHEN (direct route).
From Othmarschen, as above.
Travelling time ca. 1.5 hours.

AIRPORT Express No.52 (please make sure that it is No.52 !) directly to the train station/Bus Coach-station/S-Bahn Altona.
The Ticket is around 9,--DM  and also valid for further trips to DESY by Bus and S-Bahn
The bus goes in 30 Minutes to Altona and will depart from the ARRIVAL-GATE every 30 minutes.
In Altona you could swap to Line 1 (direction Rissen), goes directly to DESY (27 Minutes).Or you could take at first Line 2 (Schenefeld)
to Bahrenfelder Trabrennbahn, there swap into Line 1 (Rissen) (left hand on the westside of the cross) to DESY.
Swapping saves you a bit time (approx. 15 min.).

There is also one Express Bus which goes to Hauptbahnhof(Central-Station) but this one is more expensive and Hauptbahnhof
is not a real good decision since you don't have to touch it while going to DESY.
 

• By car: Here is a map.
• Exit the Autobahn A7 at HH-BAHRENFELD.
• Arriving in Hamburg from the SOUTH:

Turn LEFT onto the main road (Osdorfer Landstrasse).
• Arriving in Hamburg from the NORTH:

Turn RIGHT onto the main road (Osdorfer Landstrasse).
• Make a RIGHT TURN onto NOTKESTRAßE (1st traffic light after the BP Petrol Station).
• The entrance to DESY is the second road on the LEFT.
